Bringing modern technology to grassroots communities is always a unique challenge, accompanied by profound fulfillment. From August to October 2024, I served as Project Manager (PM) under the prestigious AWS in Communities CSR initiative, focusing on digitalizing community healthcare, child health monitoring, and posyandu services across Rawamerta District, Karawang Regency.

Leading a dedicated development team—Farid, Karlina, Khalil, and Affan—we engineered and delivered Gumelis, a digital platform tailored for village resident health screening and toddler growth tracking.

Synergy with Rawamerta District Leadership

Successful technology adoption in regional areas hinges on supportive local leadership. In Rawamerta, we worked closely with Pak Angga, the Rawamerta Sub-district Head (Camat) who served as the local Person in Charge (PIC).

His proactive support paved the way for seamless collaboration between our technical team, village leaders, midwives, and dedicated community posyandu volunteers (kader).

Socialization Session at Gombongsari Multipurpose Hall

The core milestone took place at the Gombongsari Village Multipurpose Hall, where we conducted hands-on training and trial sessions with dozens of community health volunteers and residents.

As a PM, my responsibility extended beyond tracking GitHub commits and sprint tasks; I stood in front of the community to demonstrate how this digital tool directly simplifies their traditional paper-based workflows.

Real Solutions: Toddler Growth Records & Resident Screening

The platform was built with an intuitive, accessible user interface to cater to volunteers transitioning from bulky physical logbooks.

Key modules include:

  1. Resident Health Screening: Enables structured digital health records during routine community check-ups.
  2. Toddler Health & Growth Tracking: Tracks height, weight, and immunization timelines to facilitate early stunting prevention.

Grassroots Enthusiasm: The True Catalyst of Change

The most inspiring takeaway from Rawamerta was the eagerness of the posyandu volunteers. Despite interacting with a digital health management system for the first time, their enthusiasm to learn was exceptional. They asked thoughtful questions, practiced inputting data on laptops, and warmly embraced the technological shift.

Project Management Reflections

For a Project Manager, success is ultimately defined not by code complexity, but by the tangible value and ease delivered to end users on the ground.

My sincerest gratitude to AWS in Communities, Alkademi, Camat Rawamerta Pak Angga, the Gombongsari Village administration, and our outstanding dev team (Farid, Karlina, Khalil, Affan). This collaboration proved that world-class cloud technology can serve as a meaningful bridge to uplift community healthcare at the village level.
